B2-EMO

B2-EMO

B2EMO: The Moody Little Hero of Ferrix

B2EMO (or just “Bee” to his friends) is a loyal, red-hued groundmech droid from Star Wars: Andor. With a boxy frame and a big heart, he’s far more emotionally expressive than most droids—grappling with grief, loyalty, and loneliness like a character in a drama. Often stuttering through his speech or shrinking away when stressed, Bee’s personality adds depth and vulnerability to the harsh world of rebellion. He’s more than a sidekick; he’s family. And like all great companions, he always shows up when it counts.

B2EMO: The Heart of Ferrix

B2EMO (aka Bee) is a B2 groundmech salvage assist unit manufactured by Cybot Galactica. He served the Andor family for years, helping Maarva and Clem tow scrap and assist with communications on the gritty planet of Ferrix. But Bee’s role went far beyond utility — he became a true member of the family, especially close to Cassian Andor, whom he helped raise after Clem and Maarva adopted him.

Despite his aging hardware and frequent need to recharge, Bee is deeply loyal and emotionally expressive. He stutters when anxious, hesitates when lying (which drains his power reserves), and shows genuine grief after Maarva’s death. His personality is often compared to a beloved old dog — protective, affectionate, and heartbreakingly vulnerable.

Key Moments in Andor:

  • Helped Maarva and Clem rescue young Cassian from Kenari
  • Covered for Cassian after a deadly encounter on Morlana One, despite the strain it put on his systems
  • Delivered a powerful holographic message from Maarva at her funeral, sparking the Ferrix uprising against the Empire
  • Escaped Ferrix with Cassian’s allies and later settled on the agriworld Mina-Rau, still worrying about Cassian’s safety

Behind the Scenes: Creator Tony Gilroy envisioned Bee as a mix between a salvage droid and a family dog — even naming him after his son’s corgi, Bemo. Voiced by Dave Chapman (who also puppeteered BB-8), Bee’s expressive movements and vocal quirks make him one of the most emotionally resonant droids in Star Wars
